ONLF Blames Ethiopia Over Assassinated Kenyan Civilians in Kenya | Mareeg Media

Mareeg.com-The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) accused of Ethiopian regime of assassinating refugees from Ogaden region of Ethiopia, and Kenyan nationals that assist the refugees as well as Somali officials critics to her policy towards Somalia while appealing for protection for the Ogadeni asylum-seekers registered at UNHCR in Kenya in her press release on Sunday.

The ONLF warned that the “dangerous consequences” it may bring to all concerned if the Ethiopia’s cross border crimes and illegal activities such as abducting,coercion, and assassinations left unresponded .

“Since 2009, the Ethiopian government decided to routinely abduct and commit extrajudicial executions, including politically motivated killings in Kenya and so far the action taken by the Kenyan government to protect the refugees it gave asylum was not enough to stop such criminal acts”,the statement said,referring to Ethiopia’s transnational nature of organized crimes in recent years.

“After failing to deter Somalis from Ogaden to keep seeking refuge in Kenya ,despite all these inhumane acts, the Ethiopian regime has now decided to punish the local Somali Kenyans for supporting the refugees and in order to create chaos and destabilize the North-Eastern Province of Kenya,” the statement reads.

ONLF urged United Nation’s Refugee Agency and Kenyan government to do any necessary prevention to protect the lives of the refugees that are under threat of Ethiopian assailants and Kenyan citizenry “that are under its care.”

ONLF’s press release came after weeks of series assassinations and wound occurred in Kenya,which caused panic among the Ogadeni Refugees and Somali Kenyans in North-Eastern Province alike.

Over the last three weeks the Ethiopian Security has assassinated three Kenyan nationals and wounded another one in Garissa,Kenya .

Ethiopian assailants such as Abdirahman Hajira, who was arrested by the public on Wednesday afternoon and 19 others allegedly dispatched by the Addis Ababa regime and still believed hiding in the Kenyan territory will force the Kenyan Security forces to work round the clock to neutralize and effectively deal with threat .

The Ethiopian assailants were reportedly trained in Addis Ababa and have crossed into Kenya early this year by way of Moyale border to Nairobi before travelling to their destination, Garissa.

“The arrest of one of the killers is crucial as he will give us more details . We will want to know his accomplices and those who have been sending them,”Garissa county commissioner Rashid Khator said.

“We will not allow people to kill our people. People should not settle their political or business rivalries in our town. We will pursue them until we get all of them,” Khator said.

ONLF’s statement denounced Ethiopia’s genocidal policy towards Somalis in Ogaden and praised Kenya’s hospitality for the refugees that sought refugee in its soil.

“The Ethiopian regime has taken a policy of coercion, extermination and mass execution against the Ogaden people in Ethiopia, so they fled to the neighboring countries. Many of these refugees sought asylum in Kenya and which has been a safe haven for the refugees in the horn and central Africa ,because of their hospitality and for their respect of international and African laws of Refugees.”

Kenyan brokered peace-talks between ONLF and Ethiopia stalled in Oct 17, 2012, after the ONLF refused to accept Ethiopian constitution, which it says the Ethiopian constitution does not concern the Somalis in Ogaden. The kidnappings of two members of ONLF negation team ,Sulub Abdi Ahmed and Ali Ahmed Hussein,have further complicated diplomatic negotiations between the ONLF and Ethiopia.

Kenyan Businessman claimed Shot Dead By Ethiopian Rebels of Ogaden

A Kenyan businessman was shot dead in Garissa on Wednesday evening by suspected members of the Ethiopian rebel group, the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), the police confirmed on Thursday.

Garissa County Police Commander Charles Kinyua said the 48 year- old shopkeeper, Hassan Yussuf, was gunned down by three armed assailants who confronted him at shop.

This is the fourth incident of killing related to wrangles and bitter political difference entangled two Ogaden sub-clans, police said.

"The deceased was at the shop attending to his customers, before the masked armed men stormed into his shop and shot him at a close range. The shopkeeper died on the spot," Kinyua said.

He said the assailant tossed a hand grenade at the police and the public as they tried to escape, but no one was hurt. They were then overpowered and disarmed.

He said the police officers who responded to the alarm raised by the public recovered a Tokarev pistol loaded with 3 rounds of ammunition.

"This killing has nothing to do with the normal thuggery, banditry and the Al-Shabaab. We suspect it has something to do with ONLF and clan politics in Ethiopia Somali region," Kirui said.

A taxi driver was shot dead last week and member of county assembly for Mbalambala ward Idriss Bilal was stabbed and seriously wounded in separate crime incidents in the town.

Kenya should not leave Somalia on the grounds demanded by Al-Shabaab, a notorious terror group whose attacks have mounted security fears in the East Africa Region, the Speaker of the East Africa Legislative Assembly has declared.



Speaker Margaret Zziwa told The Guardian on Sunday at mid week in Dar es Salaam that the Kenya Defense Force (KDF) units deployed in Somalia were not representing just Kenyan state interests but are crucial for the betterment of the whole of East Africa.



The EALA speaker said the cardinal reason for the deployment of Kenyan troops in Somalia was to restore peace in the country, clarifying that the initiative was in harmony with the treaty for establishment of the East African Community.



“I want to remind the general public of East Africans that Ugandan UPDF troops as well as Burundian Defence Force units are also in Somalia under the same spirit in which Kenyan troops were deployed in the terror embattled Horn of Africa failed state,” she stated.



“The question of security both internally and across territorial borders is part of a collective responsibility,” the EALA Speaker asserted, noting that under Articles 124 and 125 of the 1999 Treaty issues of security and defense are vested in the member state governments, working together for the purpose.



Whereas Article 124 provides for regional peace and security that of the partner states agree that peace and security are prerequisites to social and economic development and vital to the achievement of objectives of the Community.



“In this regard, the partner states agree to foster and maintain an atmosphere that is conducive to peace and security through co-operation and consultations on issues pertaining to peace and security of the partner states with a view to prevention, better management and resolution of disputes and conflicts between them among others,” she pointed out.



In the same sprit security organs from the partner states are sharing tasks in undertakings to promote and maintain good neighbourliness as a basis for promoting peace and security in the region, she said.



Peace keeping and peace enforcement, along with disaster management mechanisms lead to requirements of harmonising training operations, technical co-operation and mutual support in areas such as common mechanisms for the management of refugees.



Other areas are cross-border crime, provision of mutual assistance in criminal matters and the exchange of information on national mechanisms for combating criminal activities, the Speaker noted.



To this end the partner states undertake to enhance the exchange of criminal intelligence and other security information between the partner states’ central criminal intelligence information centres and conducting joint operations, the treaty provides.



Other matters include patrols to promote border security, establish common communication facilities for border security under United Nations model law on mutual assistance on criminal matters, she pointed out.



Security in the EAC states is part of its wider determination to strengthen economic, social, cultural, political, technological and other ties for rapid, balanced and sustainable development.



Border security was vital for realizing the target of an integral customs union area, a common market, monetary union and political federation.



Recently Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto insisted that Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) units will not leave Somalia until peace is restored in the Horn of Africa nation.



Responding to calls for withdrawal of Kenyan troops due to rampant terror attacks, Ruto said: “We shall stay engaged under AMISOM to create a peaceful and stable condition for Somali people.



.He said the tripartite agreement between the Somalia government, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Kenya government on voluntary repatriation will be signed in two weeks.



 “This agreement has been long overdue and in the next two weeks we should sign it in Mogadishu or in Nairobi,” he said.



Nairobi media reports affirmed that since Kenya intervened in Somalia in October 2011, insecurity has gone out of control, with attacks becoming commonplace in Nairobi, the coastline, and parts of the north eastern border zone with Somalia.



They fall into sophisticated attacks like the Westgate infamy and lately Mpeketoni bombing which cost many lives, and amateurish low-grade and low casualty like border attacks meant to gather arms from isolated police posts.

One person is reported missing following the raid. The attack occurred at Dofano grazing zone between Antuta and Kate settlements, about 40 kilometres from Moyale town. The area is mainly occupied by Borana and some Gabra community. Both communities alleged they were attacked by their rivals and their livestock stolen respectively. There was tension at the border town of Moyale after the incident. While addressing journalists Thursday evening, Moyale OCPD Thomas Atuti said two bodies have been collected from the bush and confirmed that one person was still missing.
