TURKANA, KENYA: The Kenya Marine police have been deployed to Todonyang border point along Lake Turkana to contain Merille militia threats on Kenya â€“ Ethiopia border.

Turkana Police commander Emmanuel Karisa said the police unit will patrol the area to ward off Ethiopian Merille militia who recently killed 11 fishermen in Lake Turkana and stole five boats and fishing gears.

The Police commander said the officers will set up base in Todonyang.

“They will be permanently based there to deal with Merille militia who have continued to threaten peace in the region," Karisa said.

For the last two weeks, the heavily armed militias have crossed to the country’s border and took 90 percent control of Lake Turkana and dominated fishing activities in the area after they sent locals fleeing for their safety.

Karisa said the marine police will also carry out their security surveillance along Lake Turkana to curb illegal incursion by the militia into Lake Turkana.

Turkana North DC Eric Wanyonyi said the Merille militias had encroached more than 14 km insideKenyan territory at the river Omo delta in the lake where there are abundant fish stocks.

“We will soon flush them out from Kenyan territory.We cannot condone armed foreigners crossing into the country to displace locals and take control of Lake Turkana resources," Wanyonyi said.

The DC said they had also contacted Ethiopian authorities to restrain its people from crossing to Kenya borders with arms.

"We have made it clear to them that they should not blame us for any consequences arising from these illegal incursions," he added.

The administrator noted that the Merille militias have occupied Kenyan territory citing Lopeilele and Apalokwang deltas which lies inside Kenyan borders.

Nairobi - At least 10 people were wounded in two separate attacks in Kenya, police said Sunday, including a blast at a church in Mombasa and a grenade hurled in a crowd in Nairobi.

In the port city of Mombasa, attackers on a motorbike threw a homemade bomb into a church service, wounding seven, while in Nairobi, a grenade was thrown in the largely ethnic Somali district of Eastleigh, police said.

The attacks are the latest in a string of grenade blasts or shootings to have hit Kenya, although it was not immediately clear if the two attacks were connected.

In Mombasa, coastal police chief Aggrey Adoli said that police were searching for the attackers.

"The attack occurred at a crusade [church service]," Adoli said. "Those injured have been taken to hospital."

The blast was believed to be caused by an improvised petrol bomb.

In Nairobi, the capital's police chief Benson Kibue said "a grenade was thrown at a crowd within the Majengo area of Eastleigh, and three people have been injured".

Kenyan police have previously blamed similar grenade attacks on supporters or members of Somalia's al-Qaeda-linked Shabaab insurgents.

Kenyan troops invaded southern Somalia in 2011 to attack Shabaab bases, and have now joined an African Union force to battle the extremists there.

Kenya's invasion however sparked an angry reaction and warnings of revenge from the Islamists.

On the coast, police have in the past also accused a separatist group - the Mombasa Republic Council (MRC) - of staging attacks.

Kismayu-(Mareeg.com) residents of Jilib town which is situated at the lower Juba region say that Alshabab yesterday evening displayed 2 men who they claimed were among the Kenyan troops.

Alshabab said that they caught the two men during a planned attack at a town near the Somali border.

The islamists addressed the residents while security was tight and heavy artillery such as anti aircrafts was displayed.

On other news from Kamsuma town in the lower juba region say that a man was shot dead at a local parade organized by the islamist fighters. The man was shot as hundreds of residents watched him. The man was accused of witch craft which is prohibited in Islam.

Alshabab accused the man of possessing snakes and crocodiles and accused the man of using them to kill people.

Recent news from Kismayu report that there is anxiety and fear among the residents of Kismayu as two tribal militia groups face each other.

This comes as communication of the city is cut off leading to prices of food commodities doubling in the past few days in the region.

Five people killed in fresh Mandera County attacks

NAIROBI, KENYA: Five people were killed, three others injured and several camels killed in fresh inter-clan fighting in Banisa District- Mandera County. The victims were attacked by a militia that is said to have crossed from Ethiopia on a revenge mission on Saturday morning. 

Police said the gang later vanished into Ethiopia, which is few kilometers away. 

The deceased and injured are said to be from bothGarreh and Degodia sub clans. 

North Eastern police boss Charlton Murithi said the injured are admitted at the local  District Hospital in a stable condition with bullet wounds.

 “We suspect the attack was in an apparent retaliation to the ongoing clashes that have occurred in the past weeks. It happened deep in the villages and the attackers targeted herders,” said Murithi. 

The attack happened days after the military moved to the area to stem a pending attack following intelligence that showed so. 

Murithi said they have deployed enough personnel in the area to contain more attacks. But the attackers have been targeting people in villages where there are no security agencies. 

Officials said tension was high along the Kenya- Ethiopia border after the retaliations which have now claimed five people in two days.

The African Union Commission and the government of Kenya on Thursday signed an agreement to host African Union Organs in Kenya.

The agreement was signed at the AU Head Quarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, between the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Amina Mohamed  and Chairperson of the AU Commission Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two parties, Kenya will host the Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources (IBAR), the Pan African University’s Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovations (PAUISTI), as well as any other organ that may be hosted in Kenya with the authority of the Government of Kenya.

IBAR is already operational in Kenya.

Speaking during the signing of the memorandum, Dr. Zuma said that she was satisfied with the agreement.

She noted that the signing of the MOU means that “we can start putting structures in place for the Pan-African University where our youth will gain knowledge and skills to drive our economy.”

She thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for “moving swiftly on his prior agreement in hosting the campus for the Science and technology” saying that science is the way to go.

Ambassador Mohamed expressed her gratitude for being able to rapidly deliver the assignment given by President Kenyatta.

The Kenyan delegation to the signing ceremony was composed of Kenya’s Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Dr. Monicah Juma and others.

The AUC Chairperson was accompanied by her Chief Advisor Ambassador Baso Sangqu, Commissioner for Human Resources Science and Technology (HRST) Dr. Martial De-Paul Ikounga and the HRST Director Dr. Abdul-Hakim Elwaer.
